There’s No Such Thing as Flea Season

dog scratching itself, insurance for dogs, dog health insurance, pet health insurance plansPsst! Hey, over here! I have a secret: there’s no such thing as flea season. Year-round flea and tick prevention is essential to your pet’s health– and your sanity.

Fleas and ticksĀ are active during the winter months. Ticks, those hardy little bloodsuckers, can be just as active in a heavy snow as on a sunny day in the woods. Fleas function in a lessened state of survival, similar to suspended animation. All this activity means they’re also actively laying eggs, which, if they survive freezing temperatures, will hatch at the first sign of Spring. If you’ve had a mild winter this year, you’re in for a tough summer.

Monthly flea and tick treatment is a preventative measure, not a cure. When you skip flea and tick treatment in the winter, it’s virtually a given that you’ll experience flea problems in warmer weather. Even if you kill fleas as soon as they appear, they’ve likely already laid hundreds of eggs in your home. This is how many flea infestations begin.

Year-round flea and tick treatment is a win for both you and your pet. If there’s no such thing as flea season. And year-round treatment means now there’s no such thing as flea season for you and your pets, as well!
