Chelsea and her 8-year-old Shih Tzu, Ari (named after a character on the show Entourage)

Your name: Chelsea Mull

How long have you been working at PetFirst: 5 wonderful years

Pets at home: Ari, an 8-year-old Shih Tzu

What is your role at PetFirst? I am the Digital Marketing Manager, which means I am responsible for the content you are reading now, and all aspects of e-commerce for PetFirst. I get to work with a lot of pet insurance partners, like aggregators, brokers, retail partners, etc. I am lucky to work with great teams and agencies to help us provide pet health care content and creative for our website and social media outlets. I also get to see all the wonderful pet insurance reviews from our policyholders and see first hand the benefit of having pet health coverage.

What did you do before working at PetFirst Pet Insurance? My background comes from a Marketing & PR firm, focusing on public relations and event planning. PetFirst Pet Insurance was actually a client of mine while working at an agency fresh out of college. I loved working with their team, and have always been a lover of animals and advocate for animal welfare, so it was a great fit and easy transition to work at PetFirst!

What attracted you to come work at PetFirst? That is easy- the people and the passion. Everyone at PetFirst is so friendly, easy to talk to, and pet passionate. Employees at PetFirst take pride in doing what they do – providing pet parents a financial tool to help pay for rising veterinary costs. Our pet passion overflows into many employee-driven philanthropic efforts, like providing local shelters with supplies. But, we also know how to have fun – in fact, it is one of our core values “Bring the Fun!” – and PetFirst fosters such a wonderful environment and culture that allows that to shine through.

What is one of your favorite things about working at PetFirst? We celebrate our birthday each year in July with a week-long agenda of events. One year we had a dunk tank delivered to the yard next to our office and we got to dunk all the executives and managers! Nothing shows your commitment to your company and to your core value of “Bring the fun” more than allowing your employees to dunk you in a giant tank of water in front of the entire company.

What is your ultimate dream job? I would love to flip or restore houses, and hope one of these days I can do that full time! I really enjoy being creative, as well as getting my hands dirty and planning all the details and seeing them come to fruition.

What is your life motto? Audrey Hepburn is quoted with saying “The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters.” I think it pretty much hits the nail on the head.

What was your first pet, and what was their name? My first pet as a child was a beta fish named Madison. I was so attached to her, I made my dad hold a funeral service for her at the cemetery my grandmother was buried at. Madison had four successors, all with the same name.

Are you a dog or a cat person? Dog

If you were an animal, what type of animal would you be and why? I’d be a dolphin – they get to swim all day and do amazing flips. Plus, everyone loves dolphins!

What is your most memorable animal or pet experience? It took me 17 years to talk my parents into letting us have a dog. I didn’t know my parents had finally fallen for my bait – I came home from high school one day to find dog food, bowl, leashes, etc. on the kitchen counter, and was confused. Then, the sweetest, cutest ball of fluff came stumbling around the corner, and I cried like a baby. I am pretty sure I didn’t let anyone else hold him for a solid week.

If you’re not working, where can you usually be found? At home, with my two adorable kids, my sweet, but lazy dog and wonderful, supportive husband.
